Project: Letters to Santa

Objective: Older and younger students will work cooperatively in using listening and writing skills, and learning proper procedure for mailing letters.

Resources: Teacher: envelopes, cardboard box, colored paper, markers. Students: paper and pencil.

Teacher Preparation: Contact a classroom to work with; create a mailbox using a cardboard box and colored paper and markers.

1. Procedure: Upper grade students buddy up with primary grade students.
2. Younger students dictate a letter to Santa Claus to the older students.
3. Have the older students copy the letter into finished form, place them in envelopes, address the envelopes and together, draw two stamps on each envelope in the proper location.
4. Have students mail their letters.

Variations/Options: Upper grade students can answer the letters as if they’re “Santa”.
