Thank goodness for my diet of cartoons during the 50’s! Among other things, they were partly responsible for exposing me to classical music. A fun activity is to play a recording of the overture to the William Tell opera by Gioacchino Rossini. Play the entire overture and you’ll hear not only the “Lone Ranger” theme, but also at least two other melodies that have been used for years in cartoons. Your kids will surely recognize this famous music, providing you with a chance to explain where the music really came from.
