Bet
you had no idea there were so many tunes about YOU! (Teachers,
that is.)
Ellen
Ferrin got the ball rolling on the T2TForum listserve
when she asked for teacher-type songs. She explains, "You
know, Teach Your Children, by CSN&Y...Teacher, Teacher
by 38 Special. I'm trying to compile a CD of those types
of songs." The resulting suggestions are below:
"The first songs that come to my mind are "Another
Brick in the Wall" by Pink Floyd (kinda negative, though),
and "Eula" by Little Feat (Chinese Work Songs album)...
" -Tammi Pittaro
Elton
John "Teacher I Need You"
George Michael's lyrics "I've had enough of danger, people
on the streets...'cuz teacher, there are things," and I
cannot remember the title of the song!!
Princes of Babylon also does a song titled "Teacher." Sting
(The Police) in the song "Don't Stand so Close to Me" they
start off with "Young teacher the subject of...," "sometimes
it's not so easy to be the teacher's pet..."
Sting also does a song titled "Brand New Day" with these
lyrics: "You're the pupil I'm the teacher You're the church
and I'm the preacher..."
The Temptations song "Ball Of Confusion (That's What The
World Is Today)" mentions: "The only person talking about
love thy brother is the preacher and it seems nobody's interested
in learning but the teacher"
ABBA has a song "When I Kissed the Teacher"
Aqua "An Apple a Day"
Eric Clapton "My Father's Eyes" mentions these lyrics: "Where
do I find the words to say? How do I teach him? What do
we play?"
"Cat's in the Cradle" is a good song showing the importance
of spending time with your children/family.
"Beauty School Dropout" from Grease-the musical is a funny
song about staying in school!
The Coca-Cola theme song "I'd Like to Teach the World to
Sing!"
"I'm Hot for Teacher" by Van Halen! Some are a little far-fetched,
but worth a shot! -Amber [tchskool]
How
about Timbuk 3 - "The Future's So Bright"? -Amy J. Martin

Tough
Teacher
"This
was sent to me by a friend...just had to share :-)"
-Susan J. Winborn, Dallas, Texas
Note:
Even the coaches of the Odessa Permian High School football
team were not this tough. I expect they may not have even
owned a tie; probably just a clip-on...
A school teacher injured his back and had to wear a plaster
cast around his torso. It fit under his shirt and was not
noticeable at all. On the first day of the term, still with
the cast under his shirt, he found himself assigned to the
toughest students in school. Walking confidently into the
rowdy classroom, he opened the window as wide as possible
and then busied himself with deskwork. When a strong breeze
made his tie flap, he took the desk stapler and stapled
the tie to his chest. He had no trouble with discipline
that term.
